Bb trickz has gone all out with references to The Cardigans in his latest single, ‘a la mala’. The song not only clearly samples the main riff of ‘My Favorite Game’, but its video clip is also widely influenced by that of the Swedish band. Also, the song is not bad.
‘The Bad Way’ is produced by Hudson Mohawke, known for his work with Kanye West on ‘Yeezus’, Drake, A$AP Rocky, Pusha T and Danny L Harle. Thus, the ‘My Favorite Game’ sample is recognizable from the first second and is what rounds out the song, along with Belize’s interpretation.
She raps about how “malvá”, “depravá” and not very “holy” she is, following the line of interpretation of her latest singles. In this way, Bb trickz moves away from the style that he has maintained for most of his short career, with which he used to use his natural voice, hardly forcing it. In ‘the bad way’ it is quite the opposite, showing a half-shouted delivery that can be annoying, without a doubt, but it is also less monotonous.
The references to ‘My Favorite Game’ continue with the video clip. In the original, Nina Persson set out on a desert road on a trip that ended fatefully. In three of the five original endings, in fact, the artist ended up dying. Bb trickz, on the other hand, mixes the idea of The Cardigans video with the plot of a Tarantino movie, kidnapping people or robbing gas stations, but with the same scenario. In the end, Belize keeps all the money.
