The hilarious story behind the Katy Perry and Chief Keef remix

Katy Perry has released a surprise remix with Chief Keef, the greatest exponent of Chicago drill in the early 2010s, neither more nor less. The song chosen is ‘Legendary Lovers’, from ‘PRISM’, which has had a viral resurgence lately. The exchange of tweets between both artists in 2013 was also legendary. In fact, it is Internet history.

It all started with a tweet from Katy Perry in which she expressed her opinion of the song ‘Hate Bein’ Sober’, a classic by Keef, who was 17 years old at the time: “I just heard a new song on the radio called ‘I hate being sober’ and now I have serious doubts about the world,” Perry posted. Keef’s response was quick to arrive: “That bitch Katy Perry can suck the skin off my dick.”

“I’m going to break his face” and “New song ‘Katy Perry’ coming soon” were the tweets that followed the latter, until Katy Perry provided a plot twist remembered to this day: “Mr. Keef, I’m sorry if I have offended you. I’ve heard a lot of people collaborating on the song and I didn’t know it was you in particular, really…” Keef’s response remains legendary: “Oh :/ So I’m sorry too :(,” the rapper wrote.

Katy declared herself a fan of the video for the song ‘Don’t Like’, remixed at some point by Kanye West and Pusha T, and published the message that would lead to the collaboration we received today: “Believe me, I’m a lover, not a hater.” As for the remix itself, it’s pretty much the same song that was released in 2013, but with the addition of a verse from Chief Keef, which ironically is one of the cutest of his career.

The first thing he says goes straight to the heart: “Hey baby, you’re so fucking gorgeous.” The 30-year-old rapper doesn’t stop joking throughout his part, far removed from the aggressive side for which he is known: “You have a job interview, I hope it goes well / Come home and tell me how it went.” The final touch comes at the end, with him ensuring that Katy, or whoever, makes him appear at the place “as Yabba Dabba Doo.”
