elDiario.es will not rectify its news about Julio Iglesias

A court in Madrid today hosted a conciliation ceremony between the legal representation of Julio Iglesias and that of elDiario.es after the singer asked the media to rectify and eliminate all the news published about him as of January 13. The outlet, its director and the journalists involved in the investigation have refused.

This is what Ignacio Escolar clarified in a video uploaded to the media’s account: “We are not retracting it.” He continues to assure that «Julio Iglesias did not want any trace of our information to remain, nor of the murky details, such as those tests for sexually transmitted diseases that were carried out on these women. “A type of medical test that only the cooks and maids passed, not the gardeners.”

After the conciliation demand, the possibility remains open for Julio Iglesias to file a complaint against elDiario.es and, in fact, the singer has assured that this will be the case: “It is not easy to endure these pressures, but it is our job to publish verified and truthful information. In this case, a rigorous investigation that took us 3 years of work,” explains Escolar. A complaint opens the door to demanding prison sentences. However, the media director maintains his position: “If Julio Iglesias sues us, we will defend ourselves in court.”
