The musical contest Rockinaimed at bands and soloists from the Basque Autonomous Community and Navarra, opens its registration period for another year until July 2.
Today begins the registration period for the fourteenth edition of the Rockein musical contest, organized by the Basauri City Council. The registration period will remain open from today, May 22, until 8 pm on Thursday, July 2. From among all the proposals received, a jury made up of professionals from the sector will select the six finalists who will perform at the Social Antzokia in Basauri on Saturday, November 14. That same night the jury will decide and announce which will be the winning proposals for the 2026 edition.
The Provincial Council of Bizkaia, through its department of Euskara, Culture and Sports, once again collaborates with the competition through the Bizkaia Prize, which will mean that the best artist from Bizkaia from Rockein 2026 records a professional EP at the El Tigre studios in Bilbao and performs at the festival MAZ Basauri 2027.
The winning band of the main category of the last edition, Reeler, presented the works resulting from said award at today’s press conference. The alternative rock quartet made up of musicians from Bizkaia, Poland, England and Ireland, based in Bilbao, has recorded an EP of five songs called “Your Tax Money” and has also presented the video clip for the song “A Change In Your Heart”, directed by Victoria Ladrón de Guevara and Xabi Díaz (premiere on YouTube on May 29).
In addition, SilkatHego Uribe’s best band in Rockein 2025, recently released the video clip for the song “Sip Of Joy”, directed by Adrián Lorenzo and Asier Marleza, and produced as a result of the prize obtained in the contest (see below).
REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE (registration here):
-Have at least one component born or resident in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) or Navarra.
-To be eligible for the Hego Uribe Best Artist award: have at least one member registered in Basauri, Arrigorriaga, Etxebarri, Galdakao, Ugao-Miraballes, Usansolo or Zaratamo.
-To be eligible for the Bizkaia Award: have at least one member registered in a municipality of Bizkaia.
-To be eligible for the Eskarabillera award: at least 50% of the members of the group are women
-That the components are over 16 years old.
-That at the time of registration they do not have more than one released album, regardless of whether or not it is subject to a record contract.
-That the themes are original
-All musical styles are accepted
-All bands previously registered in Rockein have the possibility of participating again in this new edition, as long as they meet the aforementioned requirements. Bands that have already won will not be eligible to repeat in the same category in which they were awarded.
Rockein began its journey in 2013, taking over from previous competitions organized in Basauri to detect and promote emerging musical talent. Over the years, the contest prizes have improved and its connection with the musical cycle has been consolidated. MAZ Basauriboth promoted by the Basauri City Council. In 2025 Rockin It featured the participation of 196 bands and soloists.
