The leader of Bleachers, Jack Antonoffshared an entry from his diary on Instagram a few days ago in which he stated that musical creation “has been transformed into an ancient ritual.”
Antonoff He continued in his social media post: “The idea of optimizing what we do is a complete misunderstanding of the purpose that drives us from the beginning.” “We (me, the band, and, frankly, everyone I know) have never wanted this job to be faster or easier. We’ve never been frustrated by the randomness and magic it requires. We do it for that very reason — and without the process itself: nothing.”
He went on to criticize those who use AI to create music: “I encourage you to keep going, to jump straight off the cliff (…) We are genuinely happy to see you go,” he continued. Antonoff. “Generations to come will continue to participate in the ancient ritual of writing, recording and performing as handed down to us from God.”
“So, as we head down this strange detour where bad actors will willingly give themselves away through low-quality content, and struggling greats will find themselves even more scattered trying to make an honest living doing what they were put on Earth to do. We, meaning myself, the band, and frankly every musician I know, will remain more committed than ever to revealing what comes up within us.” And he concludes: “those who compose like this are “authentic Godless whores.”
