Paul McCartney has been performing on Saturday Night Live for 46 years

Paul McCartney has been the final guest of the 51st season of Saturday Night Live, performing three different performances. This is the fifth time that the British artist has been a musical guest on the program, not counting his appearances on the 40th and 50th anniversary. As expected, it has been very exciting.

After starring in a series of sketches alongside Will Ferrell and Chad Smith, McCartney proceeded to perform the exciting ‘Days We Left Behind’, powerful in itself, alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer. At this point, being able to see the artist sing live about all those memories is quite a gift.

McCartney’s appearances on SNL have been going on for 46 years, no more, no less. The first was in 1980, when he performed ‘Coming Up’ with his wife Linda. On this occasion, he has also performed this song, but it is not the only one he has repeated.

In 1993, McCartney revisited the show alongside Linda, performing ‘Get Out Of My Way’, ‘Bike Like An Icon’ and ‘Hey Jude’. It was not until 17 years later when he returned to the format with all the heavy artillery. That was the first time he performed ‘Band On The Run’, which he has excelled on this recent occasion. In 2010, she also sang ‘Jet’, ‘A Day In The Life’, ‘Give Peace A Chance’ and ‘Get Back’. Next to nothing.

The last time Paul McCartney was on the show, he promoted his album with performances of ‘My Valentine’, alongside Joe Walsh, and ‘Cute Me Some Slack’, with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic. Furthermore, ‘Wonderful Christmastime’ was part of a sketch turned into a musical moment. He also did not miss the 40th and 50th anniversary specials, singing classics such as ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’ and the end of the ‘Abbey Roado’ medley, with ‘Golden Slumbers’, ‘Carry That Weight’ and ‘The End’.
