‘The Afterparty’ is the name of the new album that the Swedish Lykke Li released this Friday. The album was preceded by several singles, such as ‘Lucky Again’, ‘Knife in the Heart’ and ‘Sick of Love’. But perhaps none as immediate as the focus track for this Friday, ‘Happy Now’.
Our Song of the Day today is a perfect cross between pop, northern soul (the string arrangements are very similar to Duffy’s ‘Mercy’) and then a trance blast in the form of a pseudo-trumpet, which not even Stromae in its most EDM version. A total triumph that The Magician could turn into a megahit… although no, we don’t need it.
The lyrics of ‘Lucky Again’ narrate the disappointment of a person who “opened the doors of heaven to us”, “stroked our hair” and then made us feel “like a clown”. Several images in the song make a parallel between what love generates in us and what drugs generate in us (“Felt like China White, I swear”), while the chorus wonders if that love from the past “is happy now.”
