Almodóvar brings order to the chaos of La Revuelta with his anecdotes

Pedro Almodóvar premieres his new film today, ‘Bitter Christmas’, and this Thursday he went to La Revuelta to promote it, months after making a cameo in the episode of his friend and “Almodóvar girl” Rosalía. The program has left fun as well as uncomfortable moments, with an Almodóvar who, occasionally, was perceived as oblivious to the program’s tacky humor. Broncano tried to make him laugh without much success with his typical humor, going so far as to comically kneel before him, but even he seemed somewhat dazzled by the director’s presence. Although Almodóvar himself admitted to having felt very comfortable, even though he spent the previous day promoting and was afraid of not coming to the program fresh.

More disconcerting than many scenes in an Almodóvar film was the moment when a person dressed as Don Pimpón appeared on stage to perform cucamonas, without any apparent meaning. It was worth remembering that the Magic Man had sent the children to bed a while ago, because suddenly the program seemed to continue on children’s time.

Almodóvar did not speak with Broncano about another “Almodóvar girl” closely linked to La Revuelta, Amaia Romero, who supposedly appears in ‘Amarga Navidad’, but he did review her career, her life and her current concerns. He assured that he almost has no social life and that he “lives in isolation”, and that he currently dedicates most of his time to work. He said that the pandemic has disrupted his life, since, since then, he has not stopped filming because he feels like he has less time than before to do things. At 76 years old, he claims to be “more aware” of death than ever.

The director has not always been so comfortable talking about his age, and in La Revuelta he gave one of the most memorable moments of the interview when he recalled that, for a long time, he took off years to make it seem like his brother Agustín was older, when he was a producer. Almodóvar confessed that the public only discovered his true age when a journalist from La Vanguardia extracted it from the town priest, ironically the most indiscreet person in Calzada de Calatrava, an Almodovarian character in himself.

In what ended up being the most watched program of the night ahead of ‘El Hormiguero’, which he surpassed by just 1,000 viewers, the director of ‘Amor y gloria’ recalled the past and his youth during the 80s, ensuring that at that time his life was “very choral” because he had a social life and his life was an odyssey of sex and drugs. Today he lives a quiet life and admits that he hasn’t had sex in a while, but that he is at peace. His days of fucking outdoors in the Canary Islands seem to be behind him.

Almodóvar brought as a gift a flan cooked by his sister, María Jesús, placed on a table with a very Almodovarian tablecloth, while his brother Agustín was also present in the audience and confirmed Almodóvar’s statements about his assets, since the director says he has “no idea” how much money he has in the bank.

The director from La Mancha did mention some of his properties, such as a 400-square-meter apartment in Madrid, a second residence 27 kilometers from the city and part of his artistic collection. He claimed to own original works by Dalí and Picasso, although he did not specify the total value of his assets.

Among the anecdotes about his career, Almodóvar recalled the controversy surrounding the classification of ‘Átame!’ in the United States, which went to court. In order to correctly classify a film that could not be considered pornographic even if it contained erotic scenes, Almodóvar managed to create a new category, NC-17, which prohibited access to minors under 17 years of age.

It was Almodóvar’s stories that finally brought order to the usual chaos of The Revolt, as perhaps this director affected by “professional deformation” who did not hesitate to even “direct” some camera shots could not avoid it.

@larevuelta_tve Almodóvar’s “porn” film In 1990, Pedro Almodóvar premiered his eighth film: “Átame!”. Victoria Abril and Antonio Banderas are the protagonists of the film and one of the best erotic scenes in cinema. But in the United States it was classified as a porn film 🥲 #LaRevuelta #DavidBroncano #almodovar #censorship ♬ original sound – La Revuelta
