Harry Styles was this Saturday’s musical guest on Saturday Night Live and also hosted the show for the second time, a week after making a cameo in the Gorillaz episode. In his introductory monologue, Styles joked about the accusations of queerbaiting he has received throughout his career, addressing his father to say that “he may not know everything” about him. Continuing with the self-parody, he kisses actor Ben Marshall on the mouth.
In addition, Styles has commented on the image of a boring person that many have of him, suggesting that he would rather be boring than appear in Epstein’s files. He has also defended his love of running, even though “it is not interesting.” Of course, although he says he is hooked on the “runner’s high,” he also admits that he likes “ecstasy.”
As for music, Styles has surprised by performing live two songs that have not been singles. Instead of presenting ‘Aperture’ and ‘American Girls’ again, which he has already played at the BRITs and at the BBC Live Lounge, respectively, he has opted for two more American songs: the danceable ‘Dance No More’ and the ballad ‘Coming Up Roses’.
‘Dance No More’ is the song from ‘Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally’ that shows greater inspiration in the disco music of the 70s, the New York scene and Prince. For its part, ‘Coming Up Roses’ is a classic and timeless ballad, performed by Styles on piano and accompanied by a string orchestra. Styles has given disco ball, but also retro ballads, on SNL.
