Goodbye to Gemma Cuervo, the great Vicenta in ANHQV

Gemma Cuervo died this Saturday, March 14 at the age of 91 in Madrid, her family confirmed to RTVE. “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother, the actress Gemma Cuervo, so loved and admired by everyone,” the statement said.

Theater, film and television actress with more than 60 years of experience, Cuervo is recognized throughout Spain for her endearing and hilarious role as Vicenta Benito in ‘Aqui no hay donde viva’, where she played Marisa’s sister (Mariví Bilbao) in the famous neighborhood series that aired on Antena 3 between 2003 and 2006, later going on to take on a similar role in ‘La que se cerca’.

Together with Concha (Emma Penella), the three elderly neighbors formed the trio of “patio radio” gossips attentive to all the gossip in the building. Vicenta’s character was marked by an innocence and naivety typical of a little girl that contrasted with the thuggish personality of her roommates, although she could also become disturbing and dark depending on the situation.

Decades before, during the 60s and 70s, Cuervo – who had made her theater debut in 1956 – appeared in renowned films such as ‘The World Follows’ (1965) and, above all, she left her mark on the history of Spanish drama by directing, together with her husband, Fernando Guillén, a theater company that premiered works banned by censorship by European authors such as Sartre or Camus.

Recently, Cuervo had been active on social networks, especially on Instagram, where she uploaded fun and close content with the collaboration of her daughter, the actress and presenter Cayetana Guillén-Cuervo. Lately, Cuervo had participated in Cayetana’s YouTube channel talking about sexuality, while in La Revuelta he produced his last public appearance.
