Harry Styles scores simultaneous number 1s on the UK album and singles charts. While their new album, ‘Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.’, debuts directly at the top of the album chart, its second single ‘American Girls’ also reaches number 1 in the singles ranking.
The album has sold a total of 183,045 copies in the United Kingdom, becoming the biggest debut of Harry Styles’ career. Of that total, almost the same amount comes from CDs (67,499) and vinyl (66,391), in addition to 4,339 cassettes, 2,448 digital downloads and 42,368 streaming points. In comparison, his previous album, ‘Harry’s House’ (2022), had registered 113,000 copies in its first week.
‘American Girls’ is only Harry Styles’ 4th No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart, tying him with One Direction. Styles has achieved it with ‘Sign of the Times’, ‘As it Was’ and ‘Aperture’. ‘Watermelon Sugar’, one of their biggest hits, did not go beyond fourth place.
After the release of the album, ‘Aperture’ rises to the top 4 singles in the United Kingdom. In addition to ‘American Girls’ at No. 1, ‘Ready Steady Go!’ enters at number 5. As you know, the British Official Charts limits the singles that the same artist can have simultaneously on the list to three.
Although ‘Aperture’ has failed to stay on the charts as expected, it seems that will not be the case with the second single, as ‘American Girls’ has settled into Spotify’s global top 3. On official charts, it is top 3 in Australia and Ireland, top 5 in the Netherlands and top 6 in Germany and New Zealand. We will know the Spanish data next Monday.
These days, Styles has continued to promote the album by appearing on the BBC Live Lounge, where he has performed live ‘Aperture’, ‘American Girls’, ‘Dance No More’, ‘Carla’s Song’ and a version of ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ (1985) by Tears for Fears. Today Saturday he is the star of Saturday Night Live as a host and guest artist.
