El Periódico verifies Morrissey’s noise justification

Morrissey has canceled his concert scheduled at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia for today, Thursday, March 12, the same day it was held, due to lack of rest. The culprit would be the noise generated by the preparations prior to the Fallas. This is suggested by the official statement, which alleges that Morrissey has not rested and cannot perform the concert.

“The concert scheduled for tonight in Valencia has been made impossible due to lack of sleep,” says the statement collected by Heraldo, which says that the Smiths vocalist has traveled from Milan to Valencia on his own, driving for two days, and that he has not been able to rest at the hotel “due to the noise of the festival, the techno voices at full volume and the announcements over the public address system.”

Morrissey has ended up in a “catatonic” state due to this circumstance, and has decided to cancel the concert. In addition, he asks the public to see for themselves whether they consider that “the show is still possible under these circumstances.”

El Periódico confirms that Morrissey has stayed in a five-star hotel located in the Plaza de Manises, in the center of Valencia, where thousands of people from the Fallas commissions have gathered and at night a party with electronic music was held.

Valencia was the first stop in Spain on Morrissey’s 2026 tour, which includes two further dates in Zaragoza on March 14 and Seville on March 16. Presumably the artist will catch up on rest over the next two days and will not cancel these appointments.

Morrissey’s cancellations, of course, are common, and during the first months of 2026 he has canceled several concerts on his current tour. Last year, Morrissey canceled his pass at Noches del Botánico, in Madrid, due to medical advice.
