‘SEFUE’ is Admire’s manifesto: «No woman is born to be a whore»

We told you about Admire months ago following her single ‘Loto’, with which the Catalan Mireia Gómez reinforced her commitment as a promise of national urban pop. While on that song she devoted herself to Afrobeat, in previous songs like ‘Bikini Mojao’ or ‘Babybad’ the artist had already expanded her sound palette with dembow, dancehall or acoustic-inspired sounds, always maintaining a clear pop vocation.

‘SEFUE’ joins Admire’s list of notable singles today, being one of his productions most indebted to American hip-hop and also one of his most ambitious.

The rhythmic base refers to things like ‘Naughty Boy’ by Beyoncé or ‘Get Your Freak On’ by Missy Elliott, including trumpets and echoes of bhangra, and serves Admire to launch a message of self-affirmation and power: “That I command you is what you like / My freedom is here, that is not disputed,” raps the one from Sant Cugat del Vallès. The next rhyme, “no woman is born to be a whore,” challenges the sexist logic that reduces women to their sexuality.

The rhythmic energy of the first part of ‘SEFUE’ leads into a second section of ambient and choral style that takes the song towards the spiritual. The message here goes directly to the political: while Admire denounces that “the world is sick, we must save it,” a speech by the famous civil rights activist Kwame Turé is sampled, precisely talking about freedom.

‘SEFUE’, one of Friday’s novelties, is presented with a video clip recorded in the Cloister of Sant Cugat, directed by Admire herself with the collaboration of Judit Vilarrassa in the creative direction.
