“Liar” is the first advance of Russian Red for “Relative Red Vol. I”the album that accompanies his new stage performance of mystical cabaret.
“I’m not a liar, just amazing.” This is how the first phrase of the lyrics of “Mentirosa” reads, the first release in the universe “Relative Red”the new stage and musical project of Russian Red. The piece inaugurates a hybrid format that defines the spirit of the show: songs that intermingle, dialogue with each other and generate new meanings in real time.
In its brevity of two minutes and twenty seconds, a space-time crack opens through which an old song filters into a new song. The result is not exactly a version, but an expanded reinterpretation: a pre-existing fragment coexists with an unpublished melody and lyrics, creating a new work from the crossing.
“Mentirosa” is not only a song, but a declaration of intentions. Explains the creative procedure of “Relative Red”: honor, deform, superimpose and transform musical material to open new spaces on stage. The songs stop being closed pieces and become living organisms.
The release of “Mentirosa” comes just a few weeks away from the stage premiere of “Relative Red”the intimate and transformable mystical cabaret that Russian Red will inaugurate the next March 21 in Cafe Berlin (Madrid) within an artistic residency to perform close to his audience. The residency will continue during spring and summer in Madrid and Barcelona.
Russian Red will be at Café Berlin in Madrid on: Saturday, March 21 (premiere), Saturday, April 18, Saturday, May 23 and Saturday, June 13. It will be at El Molino in Barcelona on Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30.
