Pedro Sánchez presented this Wednesday a new initiative to combat hate on social networks, during the first International Forum against Hate, held in the Gallery of the Royal Collections in Madrid, RTVE reports.
HODIO, acronym for Footprint of Hate and Polarization, will be a digital mechanism designed to track and classify the presence, evolution and scope of hate speech on different digital platforms used in Spain. Among them are Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube and Facebook.
The tool will work through the Spanish Observatory of Racism and Xenophobia and will be based on proven academic criteria to analyze the phenomenon of polarization and hate on the internet, combining “quantitative analysis and expert review to guarantee accuracy and representativeness.”
During his speech, the President of the Government pointed out that hate has become a “political weapon” and defended the need to make this problem visible in the digital environment.
“The objective is to bring hate out of the shadows, make it visible and demand responsibilities from those who do not act,” said Sánchez. In this sense, he added: “we no longer surrender to the platforms; now they are the ones who will have to be accountable to societies.”
