Lero’s is a story that everyone can connect with, precisely because it is far from a success story. Since his debut in 2020, the young artist from Extremadura has released two albums – ‘Planetas’ (2023) and ‘Arena’ (2021) – and is about to present his third. Aside from commercial success, Lero’s proposal shines by itself.
The artist from Monterrubio de la Serena, a town of 2,000 inhabitants south of Badajoz, does not fit in anywhere. That is precisely what his proposal is about, from the lyrics to his eclectic musical style. Yes, it could be compared to the universes of stivijoes, for its constant ‘oversharing’, or Delgao, for its mix of urban styles, but Lero has its own inner world.
The song that opens their first album, ‘Desueño’, is a great example of their music, starting with an audio that feels extremely personal and a very sweet acoustic melody, very indie pop, only to be interrupted by a soft trap base. Here we could already glimpse the sonic paths to which Lero aspired, who describes his songs as “happy sad” very accurately.
If we compare that song with his last single, the difference is abysmal. In ‘Lunes al sol’, there is still the indie guitar and the urban touch in the vocal delivery, but now the mix does not raise any eyebrows. The moment of the song comes with the great sample of ‘Kids’, the iconic MGMT anthem, which Lero masterfully reconverts.
The Extremadura native also does not stick to specific genres or styles in ‘Caparica’ or ‘Mississipi’, in which he opts for a reggaeton base to accompany an indie pop song. ‘If I was talking about you’, for example, defines Lero’s proposal very well, mixing the contemplative nature of indie with the lyrical immediacy of hip hop. In the brief ‘The King of the Mountain’, on the other hand, Lero embraces his most sensitive side: “Now my songs will finally play,” he promises.
This year, Lero is part of the programming of the Girando Por Salas circuit, created to provide emerging artists with the possibility of playing in venues outside their autonomous community. For this reason, the Extremadura native will be presenting his songs in different venues in the country starting at the end of March, starting with A Coruña.
