Gorillaz release an animated short to celebrate “The Mountain”

To commemorate the release of the new album “The Mountain”, Gorillaz releases an eight-minute short film titled “The Mountain, The Moon Cave & The Sad God”.

Directed by Jamie Hewlett and THE LINE studio, this epic animation follows the adventures of the band members Noodle, Murdoc, 2D and Russel as they travel through India and explore the album’s themes: the life journey, transformation and the very intensity of being alive.

Directed by Hewlett next to Max Taylor and Tim McCourtfrom the BAFTA-nominated London animation studio THE LINE, the film was made over eighteen months and thousands of hours of work, a handcrafted homage to the golden age of 2D animation that reimagines the world of Gorillaz through a classic cinematic lens. Hewlett collaborated with THE LINE on this vision to reinterpret Gorillaz through the visual language and timeless aesthetics of animated films from the sixties.

He Mountain Tour will visit stadiums across the UK and Ireland in spring 2026, with Thunder support on some dates. It will kick off in Manchester on March 21 and visit arenas in Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Cardiff, Nottingham, Liverpool, Belfast and Dublin, plus a special one-off show in London at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday June 20 alongside support acts Sparks and Thunder. They will pass through Spain he June 6 in it Primavera Sound Barcelona.
