Thundercat recovers a possible lost hit with Mac Miller

The friendship, both professional and vital, of Thundercat and Mac Miller has been one of the most prolific of the 2010s. Therefore, it is normal that with the death of the beloved rapper in 2018, many songs were left in the pipeline. ‘She Knows Too Much’ is one of them. Fans have been asking for its official release since it was leaked in 2020 and it will be part of Thundercat’s new album. Today, it is the Song of the Day.

‘She Knows Too Much’ works so much because you can tell that both artists were having an incredible time while making it: “I wish you all could have been with us when this song was created in Mac’s garage,” the bassist wrote on Instagram. The song is a jam in which the rapper’s verses take center stage, beyond Thundercat’s charismatic and iconic choruses. An ascending bassline and trumpets round out the song.

In the lyrics, just as playful as the music, Mac Miller fantasizes about a girl who is out of his “league” (“All the books she reads, she knows too much”), without realizing that she is hiding a secret: she only loves him for his money. We see that Miller progressively realizes this with phrases like “Why do you always call me when I get the check?”

The video clip is one of those that is worth watching, with Mac Miller and Thundercat going through different scenarios with different animation styles, from the stop-motion of films like ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ to the flat animation of shows like ‘Scooby-Doo’.
