Leire Martínez gives electropop punch with Miranda!

When listening to the singles from ‘Stories of that girl’, Leire Martínez’s solo debut, and when attending her interventions in interviews or as a jury for Operación Triunfo, it is very little understood that Martínez did not occupy a much more leading role within Van Gogh’s La Oreja. Now that she has no choice but to start a solo career, we discover an artist with things to say.

Leire’s debut transforms her into a “pop woman”, and that has been the attention, as she herself is explaining in interviews. This includes singles like ‘My Name’, a true declaration of intentions, or ‘El Noido’, which ups the ante and presents the already released album.

‘The noise’ teams up Martínez with Miranda!, the popular Argentine duo led by Alejandro Sergi and Juliana Gattas, who have just competed at Benidorm Fest. They have not won, but they have signed, together with bailamamá, for the moment, the most listened to song of the edition.

‘The noise’ also alludes to Martínez’s “rebirth”, literally, in the phrase “I am born again” contained in the chorus. It is a song about falling and learning from mistakes, even if it “hurts”, and about learning to believe in yourself, as described in the verse performed by Miranda!: “A shell to hide / That I didn’t believe enough / When I had it in front of me / It was always there, so inside me.”

The forceful production, signed by Pablo Rouss and Pedro Elipe Navarro, among others, places Leire in an electronic context close to the most “Robynesque” or generally Scandinavian synth-pop. The composition has two sides: some electronically stylized and almost robotic verses, performed by Miranda!, are followed by a chorus of pure pop-rock that is already quite common, in which Leire takes the reins, while the Argentine duo fades into the background.
