The British life celebrate “new adventures and beginnings” on stunning single “The Dollywaggon” to announce new album “Abstract/Natural”.
The Hull band will publish the successor album to “North East Coastal Town” (22) on June 19 via Launchpad+, in collaboration with EMI North. “We like to think it sounds like a Pulp-style northern western,” the band said of the latest single.
The stunning first preview of the upcoming album, “The Dollywaggon”, displays enveloping synths, dizzying drums and almost stream-of-consciousness verses from the vocalist Mez Sanders-Greenwho plays a protagonist caught between escape and settling accounts with himself.
“I never wanted to abandon myself, but now I’m leaving,” the song goes, driven by a restless desire for adventure: “The sign says right to roam, and the boy is wandering.” The single was written while Sanders-Green He traveled on foot the 193-mile British coast-to-coast route. The single charts a physical and emotional journey from the west coast, through the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, across the moors and finally to the group’s home on the east coast.
“The Dollywaggon” is accompanied by an official black and white split-screen music video, created by James Cooper and Luke Hallett. “In many ways, the song became the template for the entire album,” they acknowledge.
The album of ten songs, “Abstract/Natural”was recorded in his own studio life in Hull, “The Moon Factory”. Production is carried out by Stewart Baxter and Oliver Vargawhile James Kenosha took charge of the mixing and Stephen Kerrison of the master’s degree.
life are scheduled to host a series of in-store concerts in the UK in June to celebrate the album’s release. These will take place in Brighton, London, Liverpool and Leeds.
