Anna Calvi explores identity with Iggy Pop, Laurie Anderson…

Anna Calvi, the Mercury Prize-nominated English rocker, has announced the first of a trilogy of three EPs that she will publish during 2026, in which she will explore “identity as metamorphosis.” It is her first job after becoming a mother.

The first of these EPs will be released on March 20 and stands out for its cast of collaborators, which includes the legendary Iggy Pop and Laurie Anderson, as well as two modern stars of alternative music such as Perfume Genius and Matt Berninger of The National. Apparently, Anna Calvi only surrounds herself with the best.

The four-track EP is titled ‘Is This All There Is?’ and half of its content is already known. The lead single is ‘God’s Lonely Man’, which trots rhythmically in the company of Iggy Pop, while Perfume Genius participates in the swampy version of ‘I See a Darkness’ (1999) by Bonnie “Prince” Billy. Both cuts represent two sides of the same coin.

As for the rest of the songs, it seems that Laurie Anderson collaborates on a version of ‘Computer Love’ (1981) by Kraftwerk, while the title cut – with Berninger – could be an original piece or a cover of a Peggy Lee classic from 1969 that is titled almost identically.

Calvi has not released her own album since 2018, when she released ‘Hunter’, which in 2020 she reissued under the title ‘Hunted’ with collaborations from Charlotte Gainsbourg, Courtney Barnett and IDLES. However, the artist has continued to work hard composing for other people’s projects: in 2024 she signed the soundtrack for ‘Peaky Blinders’, taking charge of seasons 5 and 6.
