Sombr releases one of his best singles with ‘Homewrecker’

Although the Grammy for Best New Artist has eluded him – it went to Olivia Dean -, Sombr is obviously one of the most successful newcomers of the last year. ‘Back to Friends’, his biggest hit, is approaching one and a half billion streams on Spotify in just one year and continues to be ranked 5th among the most listened to songs globally. Sombr places another single within the top 50, ’12 to 12′ (25), which serves to comment on his new release.

’12 to 12′ was a nice disco patchwork cut and exactly this sound Sombr offers on ‘Homewrecker’, but raising the compositional level. The proposal of ‘Homewrecker’, which mixes pop, disco and indie rock, builds an infallible pop dart.

Nor will ‘Homewrecker’ dispel the allegations against Sombr of being an “industry plant” or romantic posturing, since, at 20 years old, many accuse him of singing lyrics about tragic romances that he has not experienced. Whether true or false, it is difficult to imagine Sombr becoming a “homewrecker.” Let’s say that Marina Diamandis put more effort into playing the character.

Still, ‘Homewrecker’ is today’s obvious Song of the Day for its freshness and immediacy. In the song, Sombr puts himself in the shoes of the lover to beg for eternal love. In the lyrics, he asks the girl if she has “life plans” because she wants “more than a romance”: in real life we would be facing a red flag like a cathedral, but in ‘Homewrecker’ it works, as Boose promises the girl that he will be a “much, much, much better” partner than the man who arrived first.

Reflecting the heartfelt-yet-light energy of ‘Homewrecker’, the song is introduced with a music video inspired by Old West movies. The video, which features the participation of actors Quenlin Blackwell and Milo Manheim, narrates a wild love triangle.
