YUNGBLUD and Smashing Pumpkins return to the 90s in ‘Zombie’

Yungblud has become the favorite artist of rock legends. Ozzy Osbourne even said that he had just met himself the first time he spoke to the young artist. Later, she performed alongside Steven Tyler at the VMAS. Now, The Smashing Pumpkins have chosen him to sign the first, and probably last, collaboration of their career as a band.

YUNGBLUD’s career has undergone big changes in the last year, mainly as a result of the album ‘Idols’. If before the Doncaster artist’s project was seen as a youth revival of the emo era, now it is almost perceived as the savior of rock. His impressive performance of ‘Changes’ at Black Sabbath’s final concert earned him a Grammy nomination, but also the respect of an entire industry.

‘Zombie’, also nominated for Best Rock Song at the upcoming Grammys, was the most successful single from YUNGBLUD’s latest album. However, The Smashing Pumpkins’ renewed guitars completely elevate it. Not only do they make the song feel much more powerful, but they are also directly reminiscent of the group’s 90s classics. Therefore, it is the Song of the Day.

We know that Billy Corgan does not collaborate with just anyone and, although it is a symbolic gesture, it is clear that the experienced artist firmly believed in the proposal. So much so that he even dares to sing an entire verse. This is a “full-circle” moment for YUNGBLUD: “When I was doing ‘Zombie,’ I was really channeling ‘Siamese Dream,'” he tells Loudwire.
