C. Tangana, for the moment, has left sound for image. However, ‘The flamenco guitar of Yerai Cortés’, in addition to being a Goya-nominated documentary, is also an album. It would be strange if El Madrileño did not get involved in the project. Indeed, all the songs on the sense LP have been co-written by him and Cortés. ‘LOS ALMENDROS’ is the Song of the Day.
The song that ends the film is a contemporary flamenco candy, with influences from the bulerías beat. This is precisely where the Tangana touch is noticeable, experimenting with the genre to seduce a broader audience.
Along with Harto Rodríguez, Pucho also acts as producer, but the stars of the song are Yerai Cortés and La Tania, responsible for ‘LOS ALMENDROS’ being nominated for a Goya for Best Original Song.
The singer’s sweet voice, which is a bit far from what we usually hear in flamenco, tells an unlikely love story. They say that “it is not the season for almond trees to bloom”, but they still do. As in any story of this type, there is also pain: “When I laugh on the outside / I cry on the inside.” Despite everything, love triumphs: “I can’t stop seeing you / Everywhere I look / I’ve fallen in love / With little black eyes that have looked at me.”
