Aldous Harding, the original New Zealand singer-songwriter who made us and Lorde fall in love with songs like ‘The Barrel’ or ‘Imagining My Man’, has given the details of ‘Train on the Island’, the album she will present on July 4 at the VIDA Festival in Vilanova i la Geltrú.
Harding’s fifth album was recorded and co-produced by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Dry Cleaning), a frequent collaborator of the artist, at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, Wales, where all of Harding’s previous albums were recorded.
‘One Stop’, the first preview, tells of the time Harding met John Cale, the iconic member of The Velvet Underground who has just released a single with Charli xcx. “I met the real John Cale, I was speechless, but I don’t care; I cleaned up the stage while he ate his rice,” the artist recalls in the melodious composition. ‘One Stop’ begins with piano and string arrangements close to chamber-pop, but evolves into a second part dominated by guitars.
