Víctor Monte unearths the love between Lorca and Dalí with electronics and bachata

Víctor Monte is an artist from Almeria who has been sharing his compositions since 2020, but it was not until the beginning of this year when he published his first EP, ‘vestigios del Quiero’. He began as a child studying piano at the conservatory, but the relationship with the teachers discouraged him and he moved away from music until, some time later, he began to upload covers of other songs to his social networks, first and then, as we say, his own songs. Now, he hits the table by publishing two previews of what will be his first full-length, with which he has definitively entered our radar. These new songs attract attention for their voice, a particularly poetic composition and the careful production (made together with STEGA) but also for their theme: they address the love story between Federico García Lorca and Salvador Dalí.

And he approaches it in a very different way in these two cuts: ‘Alma Rota (Chapter V: Soledad)’ is a mutant production between Bajocero These mixes are not surprising if we take into account that their catalog ranges from the minimalism of ‘get out of here’ to bops like ‘ARREBATA’ and ‘EL TRISTE’, which are reminiscent of Arca.

In statements to JENESAISPOP, Víctor tells us that he has spent a long time researching the love relationship between Lorca and Dalí, reading, for example, an epistolary that compiles the letters they sent to each other, from which he has drawn many references. The songs are sung from Lorca’s point of view; For example, in ‘All this love’ it is assumed that it is the Granada poet who laments “and tell me if it is over / that night that you are going to swear has been in vain / I have a hole with your name on the side”, and in ‘Alma Rota’ he expresses to Dalí “that I gave you my art / in pieces.”

In an industry where boys who openly sing to other boys are not abundant (which we talked about at length with Bajocero Perhaps his mother is quite to blame for the latter: Víctor thanks her for always instilling in him a love for all types of music, commenting that the album (which will consist of 14 songs) will be a medley of all of them, and naming Enrique Morente, Rosalía, Russowsky and the aforementioned Ralphie Choo, Judeline, Belén Aguilera or ¡Extremoduro!
