Only Donald Trump’s White House is capable of putting together a video about the US bombings in Iran with ‘La Macarena’. The video, full of missiles being launched and even hitting different targets, was uploaded last Tuesday to the US government networks and today one of its creators gave his opinion on Canal Sur.
Antonio Romero, a member of the Sevillian duo, has declared on Andalusian public television his disagreement with the use of the festive song in this type of propaganda: “I made it to brighten the world’s life, not to kill its life.” Let’s remember that ‘La Macarena’ was a worldwide hit in the 90s, which is why it is well known in the United States: “When you make a song and you let it fly to the whole world, anyone can shoot it at will,” he commented.
Romero has also described his reaction to seeing his song used in a war context, stating that his “hairs stood on end”, and he asked what we all thought: “Why use such a nice and funny thing for something like that?” Thus, they join the club of artists formed by Sabrina Carpenter, Radiohead, Kesha and many others who oppose the use of their music for war propaganda.
