The Twilight Sad return with and without Robert Smith

The Twilight Sad, the Scottish indie-rock duo made up of James Graham and Andy MacFarlane, much loved for songs like ‘There’s a Girl in the Corner’ and for the album that contained this hit, ‘Nobody Wants to Be Here & Nobody Wants to Leave’ (2014), have announced their recording comeback after 7 years.

Their new album, ‘It’s The Long Goodbye’, successor to ‘It Won’t Be Like This All the Time’ (2019), can be heard from March 27. The first preview was a collaboration with Robert Smith of The Cure, who is a big fan of The Twilight Sad and has taken them on tour. ‘Waiting For The Phone Call’ has been available since last October.

Now that The Twilight Sad has finalized all the details of their album we can listen to a new preview, ‘Designed to Lose’, which follows the group’s energetic but dark tone, suitable for fans of Editors or White Lies. “I can’t teach you to love, I can’t teach you to love me” is the message that the song leaves between shoegaze guitars and intense drum beats.

‘It’s The Long Goodbye’ was produced by Andy MacFarlane himself and features other luxury collaborations, as Andy Savours of My Bloody Valentine has provided additional production and Chris Coady of Slowdive has been in charge of mixing.

“In the past I’ve used a lot of metaphors in my lyrics, but this time there aren’t as many,” The Twilight Sad explained about the album. «The album is very influenced by my mental health, grief and loss, and the need to be strong in situations where you feel like you can’t be. I think it’s a very human story, although this is just my version. I feel like everyone goes through something similar. Everyone loses someone. “Everyone questions life.”
