The tropical return of Cut Copy with ‘When this is over’

Cut Copy once again sunbathes after the change of registration of their latest album, ‘Freeze, Melt’, published 5 years ago, in full pandemic. ‘Moments’, the album they publish on September 9, will know summer, or at the end of it, and show it its two singles of advance.

The third theme is also demonstrated, ‘A Decade Long Sunset’, although this will not be part of the nine cuts that make up ‘Moments’. The tropical rhythms, filtered through an elegant and refined electronics, mark the pulse of ‘solid’, the first single from the album, and ‘when this is over’, thrown this week.

‘When This is over’ – today’s song – is immediate in all its sound sophistication. The singer Dan Whitford sings accompanied by synthesizers, maracas and acoustic guitars that sound Spanish or even flamenco, and soon binds to these instruments a children’s choir. The choir comes from Candlebark School – located in the Australian people of Ramsey – and has been recorded by James Cecil de Architecture in Helsinki.

‘When this is over’ speaks of a “that has begun to crumble”, in Whitford’s words, but also “in a broader sense, talks about the attempt to find empathy when the parties seem to go in opposite directions.” Throughout the song, explains Whitford, mood “evolves from the conflict to a kind of truce.” ‘When this is over’ celebrates that, despite the differences, “we are more similar” than we believe.
