Anna’s Archivea pirate activist group, claims to have removed the entire music library from Spotify and plans to publish it through torrents.
The streaming music platform has suffered a massive theft of its music archive. Anna’s Archive has cloned approximately 86 million music fileswhich represents approximately 99.6% of all listenswith a total size of almost 300 terabytes. So far, only the metadata has been released, not the music.
The group stated in a blog post: “This Spotify scraping is ours. humble attempt to create a “preservation archive” for music. Of course, Spotify doesn’t have all the music in the world, but it’s a great start.” Anna’s Archive says it typically focuses on text, such as books and documents, but its mission to “preserve humanity’s knowledge and culture does not distinguish between types of media.”
For its part, Spotify has identified and deactivated the accounts involved in this attack, stating that they have implemented new security measures for this type of attack. anti-copyright attacksand are actively monitoring for any suspicious behavior. “From day one, we have supported the artistic community against piracy and actively worked with our industry partners to protect creators and defend their rights,” said a company spokesperson.
