Sometimes, in the review of what the 90s were like, the well-known rivalry between Oasis and Blur is treated as absolute nonsense. And it is sometimes difficult to remember which was the Oasis single that lost the battle (‘Roll with It’, not one of their most relevant compositions) or that Blur actually won with ‘Country House’ by more than 50,000 copies. Oasis ended up selling many more albums afterwards.
But also because bands as creative as Pulp, Suede or Manic Street Preachers are often excluded from the debate, for no reason.
Although we have been thinking about the same thing for 30 years, perhaps due to the success of Oasis’ macro-stadium tour, which we hope will soon announce European dates, a play called ‘The Battle’ is going to be performed, effectively inspired by the media war between Blur and Oasis. After all, beefs were and sometimes still are hilarious. It is the work of John Niven and is directed by Matthew Dunster. The good news is that it is advertised as “a comedy.”
In the cast, the actors will be the following: Paddy Stafford will play Noel Gallagher, George Usher will play Liam and Oscar Lloyd will play Damon Albarn. Mathew Horne will play executive Andy Ross. Other characters represented will be Bonehead, Alan White and Justine Frischmann, so we know that at least Elastica will have some representation, we don’t know if only as “girlfriend of.”
Tickets can be purchased for Birmingham between February 11 and March 7 and for Manchester – the city of Oasis – between March 17 and 21. Details on the official website.
