Sabrina Carpenter exhibits her charming humor on her Tiny Desk

Sabrina Carpenter is the latest artist to offer a concert at the famous Tiny Desk of the American radio station NPR. Carpenter takes over from Billie Eilish, whose performance was published the previous week.

Accompanied by a band of eleven musicians, including a double bassist, a cellist and three violinists, Carpenter performs 6 songs taken from her latest studio album, ‘Short n’ Sweet’. The songs chosen are ‘Taste’, ‘Bed Chem’, ‘Please Please Please’, ‘Slim Pickins’, ‘Espresso’ and ‘Juno’.

Sabrina gives a country touch to all the songs, and the ones that were already country, like ‘Slim Pickins’, sound similar to the studio version. The difference is especially noticeable in ‘Bed Chem’, while ‘Espresso’ maintains its disco rhythm adding Chic touches.

Carpenter, with his charming sense of humor, introduces each song with funny stories, eliciting laughter from the audience. From ‘Bed Chem’ she begins by explaining that “I’m known for openly being very horny.” Although Carpenter reveals that the initial inspiration for the song is not sexual, but rather comes from a night she spent with a friend and they both woke up at the same time like a rose. Then she adds: “Then I met a guy and discovered that, with him, I also had chemistry in bed, although in a different sense.”

Of ‘Espresso’, Carpenter jokes: “When I wrote it I knew it was special, but I really underestimated how addicted everyone is to caffeine, it really is a problem.” Carpenter is talking, of course, about the most listened to song of 2024 on Spotify globally.
