In recent days, Rosalía has been in the spotlight after the filtration of an email in which Mallorcan designer Miguel Adrover rejected a collaboration proposal with the singer. In the message, Adrover reasoned that Rosalia had not publicly pronounced against the genocide in Palestine, and that he had chosen to collaborate only with artists who have done so.
Days later, Adrover responded to the controversy of the message leaked in an Instagram post, in which he clarified that his decision “was not personal”, but in which he underlined the responsibility of the artists with large platforms to “denounce this genocide.”
Finally, Rosalia has responded to the controversy with a brief statement published in its Instagram Stories, in which it manifests its rejection of genocide, but also questions the way it has been publicly pointed out.
«I have continued with great sadness what has been saying these days. I already accept that what I will write here will be incomplete and imperfect but it is my truth and is written with the best intention, ”begins the Rosalia statement. Next, the artist defends that “the fact of not having used my platform aligned with the style or expectations of others does not mean that it does not condemn what is happening in Palestine.” “It is terrible to see day after day as innocent people are killed and that those who should stop this do not do it,” he says.
Rosalia indirectly responds to Adrover’s statements, arguing that “I don’t see how to embarrass each other the best way to move forward in the struggle for the freedom of Palestine.” And he points out that “I believe that the signaling should be directed upwards (towards those who decide and have an action power) and not horizontally (between us).”
“In a world like today we all live in constant contradiction, I the first, and although personally try to do” the right thing, “he probably does not always get it but in the process I try to learn and improve,” continues the statement. Finally, Rosalia underlines the importance of real actions: “Unfortunately, this text is not even enough in a context of extreme violence such as the one that is happening, so I wanted to end with deep respect and thanks to the people who really act as NGOs, activists, volunteers, sanitary, workers, cooperatives, associations and journalists dedicating their lives to help in this cause and many others.”
