On the way to ‘Manual de beauty’, his new album, Rodrigo Cuevas has first published a duet with Massiel and now an EP called ‘Llagares’. There are 3 new songs that are also presented by an 18-minute short film inspired by the program ‘Cantares’ by Lauren Postigo. Directed by Jorge Rojas, it features Rossy de Palma in her most histrionic version.
The recordings of ‘Llagares’ oscillate between a look at the pasodoble tradition ‘Sácame a baile’, which includes the voice of Ana Belén and a co-writing credit for Víctor Manuel; and the electronics of ‘Asturcón’. Zahara and Martín Perarnau IV appear as programmers of the latter, which also has a fairly trip-hop type of strings.
The short wanders between performance, documentary (the Asturian people are asked what they think of Rodrigo Cuevas, one says that he doesn’t sing much), interview and comedy. There is a sexual component and also self-parody.
This comic nature is reflected in the song we choose as Song of the Day, ‘An Ideal Death’. It is a collaboration with Grande Amore, very marked by the type of synthesizers and melodies that Galicians usually use. They fit Rodrigo Cuevas like a glove, who for a moment in the video convinces in his most electropop superstar facet, more like The Weeknd.
This theme imagines the death of Rodrigo Cuevas, who declares himself delighted to meet “Lina Morgan, Juan Gabriel or Rocío Jurado”, as well as confident of “entering heaven” despite the sins committed. In addition, a certain amount of tradition is maintained thanks to the added collaboration of the choir. Mapi Quintana also collaborates. The live performance in front of such an unlikely audience ends like you can’t imagine.
Rodrigo Cuevas has announced the first dates of his tour and some tickets are now available. Others will be soon. Details on their website, which is called rodrigocuevas.sexy.
