Rafael Amador, from Pata Negra and Veneno, dies at 65

Rafael Amador, guitarist, composer, singer and pioneer of flamenco fusion as a member of the groups Pata Negra and Veneno, has died in Seville at the age of 65. This is what his family has informed EFE. He was accompanied by his brother Diego Amador, his son Rafael and “many loved ones.”

Rafael’s musical life has always been linked to that of his brother, Raimundo Amador, both being members of the visionary group Pata Negra, known for their fusion of flamenco, blues and rock. Kiko Veneno has also been one of the key figures in his career, with both brothers being part of the band Veneno, creators of the 1977 classic of the same name.

The following year, Rafael founded Pata Negra, acting as the main composer and giving rise to several works, such as ‘Blues de la Frontera’ (1987), ‘Guitarras Callejeras’ (1985) and ‘Rock Gitano’ (1982). The group’s last concert took place at the Zeleste hall in Barcelona in 1989, establishing itself as one of the most important bands for flamenco fusion.

During the following years, Rafael continued his solo career, but maintaining the Pata Negra name in his projects. He went on to publish the albums ‘Institución y lunacy’ (1990) and ‘Como una vara verde’ (1995). In 2015, he received a tribute to his career in which his brothers Raimundo and Diego, Kiko Veneno, Tomasito, Diego Carrasco and Esperanza Fernández, among others, participated.
