Phil Campbell, legendary Motörhead guitarist, dies

British guitarist Philip Anthony Campbellknown as Phil Campbell and member of Motörhead for more than thirty years, has died after medical complications resulting from a major operation.

The news was confirmed by his family, who reported that the musician died “peacefully” last night after being admitted to the intensive care unit. In a statement, his relatives expressed their deep pain at the loss: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved father, Philip Anthony Campbellwho died peacefully last night after a long and brave fight in intensive care after undergoing a complex operation.”

“Phil. He was a devoted husband, a wonderful father and a proud and loving grandfather, fondly known as ‘Bampi’. He was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be missed immensely. His legacy, his music, and the memories he created with so many will live on forever. “We kindly ask that our family’s privacy be respected at this incredibly difficult time.”

Campbell achieved international fame as a guitarist for Motörheada band he joined in 1984 and with which he recorded 16 albums over more than three decades with Lemmy Kilmister. After the group split in 2015, he continued his career leading Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sonsa project in which he shared the stage with some of his children.
