Patrick Walden, founding guitarist of Babyshambles, the parallel band of Pete Doherty, leader of the libertines, has died at age 46. This has been communicated by the band in networks «With deep regret and sadness we share the news of the death of Patrick Walden. We feel very lucky to have known, loved and worked with him, and we kindly ask for respect and privacy in these difficult times ». The cause of death has not been made public.
Walden, who had been a guitarist in bands like Fluid or The White Sport, entered Babyshambles in 2004. Pete Doherty formed the band after being expelled from libertines due to their drug use, and had Walden from the beginning. Walden co-written 6 of the 16 cuts that are part of Babyshambles’s debut, ‘Down in Albion’ (2004), including the single top 10 ‘Fuck Forever’ and ‘The Man Who Came to Stay’, the face B of the single ‘Killamangiro’.
Drug use also affected Walden, who, for this reason, abandoned Babyshambles in 2005, although between 2006 and 2009 he played again in the group, sporadically and for the last time. In 2006, Walden was accused of assaulting his girlfriend and detained and spent nine days in jail. Walden was free of charges. In August 2010, Walden declared before the judge accused of reception. In 2014, he said he was studying a degree of jazz composition. In recent years, he had been relatively active on Instagram, although he did not publish content since May.
