The Mexican singer Paquita La del Barrio, known for songs like ‘Two -legged rats’, has died at age 77. This has been communicated by his family on social networks: “With deep pain and sadness, we confirm the death of our beloved Paquita la del Barrio, in their home in Veracruz,” you can read.
The statement describes Paquita as “a unique and unrepeatable artist who will leave us an indelible mark on the heart of all who met her and enjoy her music.” His lyrics, as fun as feminist, will stay forever in collective memory, either the insults of ‘two -legged rat’ or the reasons to be unfaithful in ‘Three times I cheated you’: «The first by courage / The second by whim / the third for pleasure ».
Born in Veracruz in 1947, Francisca Viveros Barradas became one of the most iconic voices of the Mexican regional. Although he already sang at some festivals of his school, Paquita did not pursue her dream until she was in a situation that would inspire many of her lyrics.
At age 15, she met her first husband in the civil registry of her people, where she started working. Although this was 18 years older than her, they married and had two children, only to discover shortly after she was already married and that she had already formed a family.
Paquita moved in 1979 to Mexico City with his sister Viola to become the queen who was destined to be. With her, he formed the duo the swallows. He gave his first concerts in the Northern fire, where he met the man with whom he would be until his death in 1997.
Nicknamed “the queen of the town” or “the guerrilla of the bolero”, Paquita managed to launch numerous successes in his life. For them, in 2021 he received the Billboard Latin Music Award for artistic path.
