‘One battle after another’ has been the big winner of the Oscars, as it appeared in almost all the pools. The film has won 6 statuettes, including Best Film, Direction, Adapted Screenplay, Supporting Actor (Sean Penn), Editing and Best Casting. Significantly, Sean Penn did not attend the gala, because he preferred to be in Ukraine, waiting “for his victory.”
Paul Thomas Anderson’s film has therefore won over ‘The Sinners’, which has nevertheless won 4 awards, and ‘Frankenstein’, which has won 3.
The 4 of ‘The Sinners’ have been for Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor (Michael B. Jordan, defeating Chalamet), Cinematography and OST. As for ‘Frankenstein’, the technicians stood out: makeup and hair, costumes and production design.
The best sound finally went to ‘F1’, which left the Spanish film ‘Sirât’ empty-handed, which also lost the award for Non-English Speaking Film against ‘Sentimental Value’.
If the Best Actress was Jessie Buckley for ‘Hamnet’, the Best Supporting Actress was Amy Madigan, for her great role as “Aunt Gladys” in the highly recommended ‘Weapons’. Another fair winner was ‘Golden’ for Best Song, in which it was one of the few musical performances of the night. Barbra Streisand paid tribute to Robert Redford, singing a short fragment of his Oscar-winning song ‘The Way We Were’. The film of the same name starred both of them in 1973, and also won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
It was a gala with few political comments, although Javier Bardem did say “no to war” and “Free Palestine” and Jimmy Kimmel made a joke about countries that do not support freedom of expression and another about the absence of the documentary ‘Melania’ among the nominees.
