Olivia Rodrigo sweeps away with her third album

‘You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love’, our next Record of the Week, has been received with enthusiasm by critics and the public. Throughout this Friday, Spotify already warned that the album was being the most listened to album by a female artist in a single day, during 2026. Amazon Music also posted that this was being the most listened to album in its first 24 hours of this year. Although he didn’t mention it, it surpassed Drake’s latest on this platform, since it didn’t specify genre.

The specific figures later revealed by Spotify regarding the first day were spectacular, with more than 80 million streams, compared to the 60 million that their two previous albums achieved on the first day. ‘Stupid Song’ not only became the third global number 1 for the album, with more than 10 million streams in a single day, but all 13 songs on the album reached the top 20 globally. The least listened to song, the last one, had 4.5 million streams:

1 NEW Olivia Rodrigo – stupid song 10,109,559
2 +3 Olivia Rodrigo – the cure 7,290,175
3 +8 Olivia Rodrigo – drop dead 7,122,412
4 NEW Olivia Rodrigo – honeybee 7,067,696
5 NEW Olivia Rodrigo – maggots for brains 6,386,161
6 NEW Olivia Rodrigo – u+me 6,091,974
7 NEW Olivia Rodrigo – my way 5,978,782
9 NEW Olivia Rodrigo – what’s wrong with me (w/ Robert Smith) 5,875,678
10 NEW Olivia Rodrigo – begged 5,663,066
13 NEW Olivia Rodrigo – less 5,266,084
15 NEW Olivia Rodrigo – purple 5,199,585
16 NEW Olivia Rodrigo – expectations 5,031,444
18 NEW Olivia Rodrigo – cigarette smoke 4,509,987

As for Spain, although the only entry in the top 10 is ‘pa ti toa’ by Ana Mena with Lola Indigo, specifically, at number 9, ‘stupid song’ managed to reach position 12. ‘honeybee’ entered the top 31, ‘the cure’ rose to 38, ‘drop dead’ to 41′, and the entire album appeared in the top 100. The most discreet song, again ‘cigarette smoke’, was at number 90.

The critical response has been more unexpected. 13 reviews raise the album to 90/100 on Metacritic, highlighting the 10 given by three outlets. Rolling Stone has opted for 4 and a half stars, The Guardian for 4 stars, and the most critical media, The New York Times, 3 and a half stars.

There has not been a “difficult third album for Olivia Rodrigo” but rather the consolidation of the project that we met with ‘drivers license’.
