If something characterizes ‘Autopoietica’, our Album of the Week, it is its powerful versatility. Mon Laferte recreates everything he learned in one of the most varied albums we remember. At first it seems like a ramshackle playlist; Afterwards, you penetrate their little world.
One of her main songs is undoubtedly ’40 y MM’, which today we choose as Song of the Day. The Chilean artist turned 40 last May and this song is a celebration of herself, as well as a vindication. The chorus is very loud (“I’m 40 and mommy, no one dies of love”), but pay attention to the verses.
At one point, Laferte says: “I’m a pop mine, and any road serves as a cushion,” in clear reference to the nature of the album. In the outro she posits herself as “a milf, a teacher, a good singer.”
This is demonstrated in a song that begins as a trip-hop in the style of the previous single ‘Tenochtitlán’, although in the end the song, as it could not be otherwise, transforms into a party. ’40 y MM’ ends in a salsa style, in what could be one of the emblematic songs of Mon’s concerts forever. I already see her singing “I’m 90 and MM, no one dies of love.”
