Mitski, who has long since become an international superstar, releases her new album ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me’ on February 27th. ‘My Love Mine All Mine’ from the previous album is approaching 2 billion streams, while ‘Washing Machine Heart’ exceeds 1,000, only on Spotify.
The two previews that we know so far warn us of a varied album. The first preview was the rocker, casual, traditional ‘Where’s My Phone?’. And today a song called ‘I’ll Change for You’ is released that has nothing to do with it. It’s our Song of the Day today.
With a certain jazz and bossa nova air, a string section and also flutes, Mitski introduces us to a song that deals with the death of love.
This is how she presented it on the BBC: “it’s about being pathetic. “Everyone should have the opportunity to have feelings, to call their ex drunk, to beg them to come back, to say things like ‘I’ll change for you.'” This is precisely the title of a beautiful and pleasant song, which she says was inspired by ‘All By Myself’ but which she gets right by not losing her cool. No, this is not a scene from ‘Bridget Jones’.
The lyrics, in contrast, are a desperate plea: “how have I let our love die (…) Yes, I have been drinking (…) I would do anything for you to love me again.” The second verse is set in a bar full of people who continue to make you feel alone, or watching the cars go by “like a child waiting to be picked up.”
Mitski has announced a world tour that goes from America to Australia without passing through Spain. The closest we will have it will be in Amsterdam and Brussels at the beginning of May. You can console yourself in our Mitski forum.
