The Michael Jackson biopic that ends in the time of ‘Bad’ – everyone is waiting for a second part – has continued to break records this summer. Already in June it became the most successful musical biopic of all time, surpassing the $911 million raised by ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
It is already approaching 1 billion, despite the film’s disastrous reviews: 38% on Rotten Tomatoes and 39/100 on Metacritic. In Spain, almost 3.3 million viewers have generated 24 million in revenue, undoubtedly being one of the great booms of 2026.
Director Antoine Fuqua has celebrated the $1 billion in revenue, indicating that it is a “humble” recognition of “the incredible producers, cast, crew and partners.” “This achievement belongs to all those who came together to honor one of the greatest artists the world has ever known (…) This historic milestone is a testament to the enduring power of cinema to unite us and is a chapter in cinema history that I will never forget.”
Three months after the release of ‘Michael’, 7 songs remain on Spotify’s Global Diary, led by ‘Billie Jean’, which has been number 1 on this chart for 19 days and is still at number 6.
Other songs that remain strong on the daily list are ‘Beat It’ (14), ‘Chicago’ (40), ‘Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough’ (61), ‘Human Nature’ (70), ‘Smooth Criminal’ (122) and ‘Bad’ (162).
Additionally, both ‘Thriller’ and ‘Bad’ appear prominently on the most popular album charts each week. On Spotify’s Global Weekly list, ‘Thriller’ appears at number 4, above Madonna’s new album (it has reached 2nd place); two different editions of ‘Bad’ are in positions 17 and 18; ‘Off the Wall’ in ’84; ‘XScape’ at 129; and ‘Dangerous’ at 200.
With all this data, Michael Jackson is ranked as the 5th most listened to artist in the world on Spotify, when a few years ago it was easy to see him hovering around the top 75.
