MAYO has competed in the V Edition of Benidorm Fest, qualifying for the final, but finishing 11th. Only televoting saved him from last place, for which he was 4th. Once this stage is over, the singer has decided to go to the networks to ask that his thinness and that of his dancers stop being criticized.
The former Operación Triunfo contestant assures that he is not much affected by criticism of his body today, but he recognizes that he has done so in the past, and he is especially concerned about the young people who follow him.
He points out about this most vulnerable sector: “I’m tired of having to see this type of reaction every time I appear at an event with media coverage.”
He continues: «one of the biggest problems I have had in my life is being thin, I have had many stages in which I have not liked going to the beach or the pool because I did not take off my shirt. Nowadays I show my body a lot, because I want to empower people to show themselves as they are. “I want to serve as an inspiration for everyone to be freer.”
Finally, he talks about the accusations of fatphobia that he usually receives: “It is not right to give your opinion about people’s bodies, you have no idea of the battles that each person may have with their body, and on many occasions I am accused of fatphobia or of promoting thinness when what I try is to expose myself to show other realities, other bodies.”
MAYO responds to criticism about his finances and that of his dance troupe:
“It is not okay to give your opinion about people’s bodies, you have no idea about the battles that people have with their bodies. I am often accused of fatphobia and promoting thinness when what I am trying to do is… pic.twitter.com/niKYGNWrFQ
