Mastodon do therapy in the documentary “The Mastodon in the Room”

Mastodon they do group therapy in the documentary “The Mastodon in the Room”which they themselves have shared and in which they talk about the death of former guitarist and vocalist Brent Hinds.

Over the course of thirty-five minutes, the three founding members of Mastodon – namely Bill Kelliher, Brann Dailor and Troy Sanders – talk about their version of a relationship that has spanned two and a half decades marked by both friendship and difficulties both regarding the group and their treatment of Hinds, who died in a motorcycle accident in August 2025, once he had left the group.

The three musicians talk, therefore, about their former partner to clear up all doubts and go beyond speculation. “It is not easy to talk about Brent. He was part of our family and we loved him with all our hearts. He was a true savage, our savage, which also meant facing certain challenges. Both things were true and we do not want to impose one truth over the other. Losing him has forced us to face a grief that we had never imagined. There will be no more hugs, no arguments, no reconciliations.”

They also talk about the musician’s addictions and the weight they had on his relationship with his former partner. “When everything was going well, it was going great, but when things got horrible, it was fucking horrible.”

But instead of continuing to explain what they say in the documentary, we urge you to watch it and also enjoy the archive images it includes. They are thirty-five minutes that no fan of the group should miss.
