Kim Petras is in trouble. The German artist has published a series of tweets in which she explains the current situation with her label, Republic Records, with whom she has been working since 2021. She assures that she is “tired of not having control over my life or my career” and, according to what she indicates, she would have asked to leave her record company.
Already in 2022, Petras also experienced a case of record kidnapping that was transferred to the networks: «I have written songs to fill three albums. I have cried for months without stopping. “I try not to throw in the towel.” Now, the singer claims that her album “has been made for 6 months,” but her label refuses to give a release date or “pay my collaborators for their work.”
«I want to continue self-financing my own music. That is why I have formally asked that Republic Records kick me out,” she posted on X. Kesha herself responded to this tweet by sharing her own experience: “I have spent many years fighting for my rights.”
She describes the situation as a “tragedy that we have to stop repeating” and assures that “seeing another woman realize that the ‘golden cage’ is still a cage is not a victory.”
In subsequent messages, the artist argues that she won a Grammy 2 years ago (Best Duo/Group Pop Performance for ‘Unholy’), that her music is “TEA” and that she still doesn’t get support: “If it’s not a TikTok trend or an 80s revival with queerbaiting, these labels aren’t interested,” she says.
My album has been done for 6 months but my record label has refused to give me a release date or pay my collaborator’s for the work they’ve done

I’m tired of having no control over my own life or career. I want to continue to self fund and self curate my own music. This is why I have formally requested to be dropped by @RepublicRecords

I won a grammy 2 years ago…….. the music is TEA. Still not supported. If it’s not a tiktok trend or 80s revival queerbaiting shit these labels have no interest in supporting.

Oh ya I also filmed and self funded a music video over 2 months ago for my next single that they also wouldn’t give me a release date for

I spent many years fighting for the rights to myself. Watching another woman realize that the ‘golden cage’ is still a cage isn’t a victory—it’s a tragedy we have to stop repeating. Freedom isn’t a privilege; it’s a birthright. I hear you, I’m sorry Kim.
