Kiko Veneno returns to the summer rumba in the first preview of what will be his new album, the 21st of his career. This is produced by BRONQUIO and will arrive on November 6. For the moment, we can enjoy Kiko’s music while sunbathing, as ‘Helicrisum’ dictates. It’s the Song of the Day.
The theme is named after the flower of the same name, more popularly known as immortelle. Its oil is known for having anti-inflammatory and regenerating properties, and it is even used in a purification ritual typical of San Juan night. For this reason, ‘Helicrisum’ was published on June 23.
The lyrics are as pure as the flower it refers to, with Veneno singing about going south “with an empty backpack” while remembering “the first time you got into my soul” with that everyday poetry that he is so good at writing: “I got lost following the smell that comes from the sea / I remember you every time I feel it,” he intones.
BRONQUIO’s production is subtle, letting Kiko’s guitar shine and adding some electric arrangements, passed through a thousand effects, and synthesizer when he plays. ‘Helicrisum’ is deliciously simple, perfect for playing on a beachfront porch. Sometimes that’s enough.
