Jungle continue to present their new album, ‘Sunshine’, which comes out in August and which they will present with two concerts in Spain on November 26 and 28 at the Movistar Arena in Madrid and the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, respectively.
After ‘Carry On’, a first bossa nova single, comes a second preview that confirms that Jungle want to take over the summer again.
‘The Wave’, today’s Song Of The Day, is also presented inspired by Brazilian music from the 60s and 70s, according to the official press release. Specifically, J Lloyd, Tom McFarland and Lydia Kitto wanted to capture in it the “warmth and musicality of that era”, but using a “particularly glossy production”, that is, contemporary. And also very danceable: ‘The Wave’ is, above all, a nu-disco song, one of Jungle’s strongest within that style, although maintaining the retro vocal warmth of the harmonies and Lydia’s voice, so distinctive.
The reason for this nu-disco excursion is that, deep down, ‘The Wave’ seeks to accompany the listener as they go through an emotional rough patch. The song, specifically, is about “finding the strength to persevere in a relationship that faces challenges,” so it offers “a dose of optimism to face difficult times.” Thus, if the prechorus cries “don’t say it’s over when everything collapses; You know it gets easier if we hold on,” the chorus heightens the emotional component: “Oh, don’t cry, we have it all, don’t worry; “We can find our way through the darkness, we can get back to where we started.”
The video clip brings the message of ‘The Wave’ to the choreography, as has been customary in Jungle: pure synchronized emotion, this time set in a nighttime gas station. As happened with ‘Back to 74’, we are eager to see it live.
