Among the novelties of the week is the new Sigrid single, ‘Jellyfish’, the first of the Norwegian artist in two years. From his last long album, ‘How to let go’ (2022), three seasons are fulfilled.
‘Jellyfish’ represents a change of musical direction for Sigrid, since the theme neglects the electropop beats and embraces a more minimalist and indie-pop sound. The battery, bass and maraca grooves of ‘Jellyfish’ greatly remembers that of ‘Young Folks’, the success of Peter Bjorn & John of 2006.
The reinvention feels luxury to Sigrid, who in ‘Jellyfish’ returns to sign a wonderful pop melody by his usual collaborator, Askjell Solstrand. The concept, for Sigrid, has been to write an issue that sounds “free and cheerful” as the “Scandinavian summer.” And of course he succeeds, thanks to the melody of “Ah Ahs” and that magical piano glissando that run through the song, almost in parallel.
‘Jellyfish’ talks about flirting between two people who attract despite their peculiarities, or thanks to them. The ‘Jellyfish’ scenario is a party full of people in which Sigrid and the person who interests him dance awkwardly, such as two “jellyfish” lost in a disco. For Sigrid, the “chemistry” between the two is in the clouds. “If you dance, me too, if you are a Loser, I am the same as you,” he sings, accomplice.
