Indio Solari, Argentine rock legend, dies

The death of Carlos Alberto Solaribetter known artistically as Indio Solaridue to an illness that he had suffered for years.

There is no doubt that Indio Solari has been one of the most important names in Argentine music, specifically pop rock, of the last forty years. Solari was a founding member and singer of the groups Patricio Rey and his Ricotta Rounds, The Air Conditioning Fundamentalists and Mister and the Extinct Marsupials.

The singer had been suffering from Parkinson’s for years, which finally destroyed his health at the age of seventy-seven in his home in the Buenos Aires town of Parque Leloir. Solari had abandoned live performances almost ten years ago, specifically in 2017, but he said goodbye to the praise of crowds after many years of success.

Solari announced that he was the victim of a serious illness in 2015, although he still struggled for a while until, in 2016, he said during a performance that the illness was Parkinson’s.

In 2022, when Los Fundamentalistas del Aire Adiciones staged a Spanish tour, Solari only participated by offering an interview to talk about the group and he did so virtually.
